Let’s deconstruct the Ten Best Texas Whiskey ranked by “Whiskey Experts” then establish Preston Rideout’s Ten Best Texas Whiskey based on Cost Per Ounce.  Best is always subjective at “Best” where as Numbers Never Lie.  

As a Consultant, I tell Restaurant operators, Bar owners and Nightclub managers, “Don’t Tell Me What You Think. Show Me What the Numbers Say.”  While the Whiskey Experts debate which distillery Best embodies the Texas Spirit or celebrate Who won what Medal at the Whiskey Olympics, I’m going to discuss what matters.  Money in the Register.  It’s time to execute some Whiskey Math and rank “The Ten Best Texas Whiskey” based on their Cost Per Ounce.

Eater believes Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Yellow Rose Outlaw Bourbon are the Two Best Texas Bourbons outside of Kentucky.  

The Houston Press listed Firestone and Roberston TX Blended Whiskey distilled in Austin, Rebecca Creek Whiskey distilled in San Antonio and Balcones Single Malt Whiskey distilled in Waco as Three of the Top Ten Most Outstanding Texas Owned Liquor.  

Thrilist believes Balcones Distilling Baby Blue Corn Whiskey and Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey are two of the Five Small American Whiskey Distilleries to Watch Right Now.  Furthermore, Forbes believes, “Balcones Whiskey is the Finest New Whiskey in the World” while Texas Monthly believes it’s “The Best Whskey You’ve Probably Never Heard Of.”  Quite the dichotomy. 

Number Four St. James, the Texas Lifestyle brand, says Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Whiskey, Herman Marshal Texas Rye Whiskey, Balcones Baby Blue Corn Whiskey, Ranger Creek acheter viagra 100.36 Texas Bourbon Whiskey, Fitch’s Goat Corn Whiskey and Yellow Rose Outlaw Bourbon, Texas Silver Star Whiskey, Red River Texas Bourbon Whiskey, Whitmeyer’s Texas Peach Whiskey, Rebeccah Creek Texas Whiskey,  Troubadour Bourbon Whiskey, TX Blended Whiskey, Jimmy’s Texas Bourbon Whiskey, Witherspoons Texas Straight Bourbon, Red Handed Bourbon Whiskey and Rio Brazos Whistlestop Texas Whiskey are the “Whiskey’s necessary to Build Your Texas Bar. 

The Dallas Observer recognizes Fort Worth based Firestone and Robertson Distilling Co. for winning double gold medals plus American Craft Whiskey Best in Class for their TX blended whiskey at the 13th Annual World Spirits Competition.  Yellow Rose received a mention for winning Double Gold American Whiskey Medals while Texas Silver Star received a Silver Star.  

Balcones lists their Whiskey Achievements accrued at the 2015 Whiskies of the World Awards including Best in Class for Texas Blue Corn, True Blue 100, 2014 Staff Collection Single Barrel while their “1” Texas Single Malt received a Silver Outstanding Medal and Brimstone received a Bronze.

In short, pretty much every Whiskey distilled in Texas is on someones “Ten Best Texas Whiskey” List.  Although informative, the “Texas Whiskey Experts” failed to mention how the Two Best Bourbons outside of Kentucky, the Most Outstanding Texas Liquor, the Finest New Whiskey in the World that you Probably Never Heard of, Gold Medals, Double Gold Medals, Silver Stars and Triple Platinum Whiskey Olympic Honorable Mentions put More Money in the Register? 

How do these Texas Whiskey rank in terms of Cost Per Ounce?  Don’t Tell me what you think.  Show me what the numbers say.   Let’s rank this list, by Cost Per Ounce, to determine the Ten Best Texas Whiskey so we can begin putting More Money in the Register.

After disqualifying Jimmy’s, Balcones True Blue, Staff Selection and Single Malt for Not being available at Specs Liquor Store online then discarding Whitmeyer’s Whiskey for being Peach and Balcones Blue / Fitch’s Goat because No one orders Corn Whiskey, the above mentioned Best Texas Whiskey List has been reduced to 14 bottles.

Although we determined the Ten Best Texas Whiskey ranked by Cost Per Ounce,  we need to further refine our Whiskey list to reflect actionable information we can use to to put more Money in the Register.  This is the first article in a series of Whiskey Math articles by Preston Rideout.
